Devil deals trade red heart containers for powerful items — but taking a deal often prevents angel rooms on subsequent floors. Angel rooms offer free items from the angel pool including Sacred Heart, Holy Mantle, and key pieces. Understanding deal/angel mechanics is essential for completion mark routing and Dead God progression where specific angel items unlock characters.

Devil Room Spawn Conditions

Devil rooms appear based on devil deal chance influenced by taking damage, killing bosses quickly, holding Black Candle, and avoiding red heart pickups. Basement II through Womb II can spawn devil rooms after boss kills. You must meet minimum devil deal chance threshold — typically above 35% for reliable spawns.

Angel Room Requirements

• You must have seen a devil room door spawn on a previous floor
• You must NOT have paid health for a devil deal on the current floor
• Base 50% chance to replace devil room with angel room when both conditions met
• Bonuses from Key Pieces, Rosary Bead, donation machines, and sacrifice rooms increase angel chance

Protecting Angel Access

To guarantee angel rooms: enter devil rooms without taking deals — seeing the door counts as "seen" for future angel eligibility. Goat Head forces both devil and angel rooms. Duality merges pools. Eucharist guarantees angel rooms. Rosary Bead replaces devil rooms with angel rooms entirely. The "You feel blessed!" fortune from confessionals allows angel rooms even after previous devil deals on the same floor only.
