The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth — How to Beat Hush

Hush guards the Blue Womb and serves as the gatekeeper to alternate path access — three Hush kills unlock "A Secret Exit" for Downpour entry. The fight demands strong DPS to break boss armor, precise dodging through bullet hell patterns, and often a 30-minute timer constraint for Blue Womb access on the same run.

Reaching Hush

Defeat Mom's Heart or It Lives ten times total to unlock the ???/Blue Womb chapter permanently. On subsequent runs, defeat Mom's Heart/It Lives in under 30 minutes to open the Blue Womb crawl space. The Blue Womb contains Hush at its end — a massive blue blob with scaling boss armor tied to your damage output.

Fight Mechanics

Hush has two main phases with escalating bullet density. Phase 1 features directional tear waves and rock wave attacks. Phase 2 adds continuous bullet streams from multiple angles simultaneously — the infamous "Hush stack" that kills most underprepared runs. Boss armor regenerates if DPS is too low, effectively soft-enraging the fight. Break armor quickly with damage multipliers like Cricket's Head, Magic Mushroom, and Proptosis.

Best Strategies

• Damage stacking — Polyphemus, Sacred Heart, and damage ups break armor before Hush enrages.
• Orbital familiars — Cube of Meat and similar provide contact damage while you dodge.
• Slow tears help — Stop Watch and Slow Pill reduce Hush's attack speed slightly.
• Practice the stack — Phase 2 bullet patterns have gaps — learn the rhythm rather than panicking.
